About Munnar

Munnar TourTea Estates
Munnar is mainly known for its manicured and aromatic tea plantations. Layers and layers of tea estates on the lofty mountains make it a surrealistically beautiful. Some plantations at an altitude of over 2100 m are amongst the highest in the world.

Tea Museum
A part of Nullathanni Tea Estate, this Tea Museum established by Tata Tea exhibits rare photographs and machineries depicting the journey of flourishing tea industry. The unusual equipments in this museum include 1909 EPABX telephone system burial urn, original 1905 tea roller, classic bungalow furniture, wooden bathtub, iron oven, manual calculators and curious related to tea. There is also a tea-tasting demonstration room and a mini manufacturing unit in this tea estate.

CSI Church
The Church of South India in Munnar is a 1910 colonial church rendering a unique charm to the heritage of this mesmerizing hill station. Its unique architecture features black basalt structure with un-plastered walls and stained glass windows depicting the saints and Biblical characters. The church even has a number of brass plaques in memory of the British era tea planters.

Mount Carmel Church
Established in 1898, Mount Carmel Church is the first Roman Catholic Church in the mountain range. This church has witnessed the journey of Munnar, from a quiet plantation town to a major tourist destination.

Blossom International Park
Blossom International Park is set in the mesmerizing locales of the hill station. Tourists can avail numerous opportunities here including boating, roller skating, cycling, campfire, etc.

Pothamedu
Situated 6 km from Munnar, Pothamedu is a great tourist attraction allowing tourists to have an excellent view of the tea, coffee and cardamom plantations in Munnar.

Munnar ToursDevikulam
Devikulam is a small hill station near Munnar famed for its scenic beauty and nature. Alongside the picturesque surroundings of Sita Devi Lake, a mineral water excursion is an ideal picnic spot. A nursery of spices is also an added attraction at Devikulam.

Attukal
Located 9 km away from this mesmerizing hill station is Attukal, a famous waterfall destination ideally known for its long treks.

Nyayamakad

Kundala

How to reach Munnar
  • By Air - The closest airport to reach Munnar is Cochin International Airport.

  • By Road – Through Kochi, it takes four hours to reach Munnar. From Kottayam and Madurai, it takes five hours and six hours respectively to discover more about Munnar.

  • By Railways - The closest train connectivity is through Kochi.

Excursions of Munnar Tour

Mattupetty Dam
Located just 13 km from Munnar, Mattupetty Dam is a delightful excursion for nature lovers. Visiting this site allows tourists to embark on trekking amidst the Shola forestland. This dam, being a vital source of power, was constructed to conserve water for hydroelectricity. Also, the large of perennial water collection provides flourishing grounds for wild animals and birds. Tourists can avail the opportunity of boat cruise on the lake reservoir.

Thattekkad Bird Sanctuary
The richest bird habitat on Indian peninsula, Thattekkad Bird Sanctuary is a 25 sq km abode of 270 species, including Malabar grey hornbills, jungle nightjar, parakeets, grey drongo, cuckoo, jungle babbler, darters etc. Sighting birds from a Treetop Machan or watch house in the sanctuary forms a great experience.

Rajamalai Estate
Rajamalai Estate forms the perfect base to explore the bountiful flora and fauna of Eravikulam National Park. Located 6000 ft. above sea level, this estate is the highest tea plantation in the country.

Eravikulam National Park
The home of Nilgiri Tahr, a rare mountain goat; Eravikulam National Park lies at the crest of the Anamalai ranges. Apart from the tahr, the park also accommodates diversified fauna as Nilgiri marten, small clawed otter, ruddy mongoose, dusky striped squirrel, etc
Anaimudi
Anaimudi, the 2695 meter high peak is the pride of South India is located close to Munnar. The height of this mountain offers bountiful trekking opportunities to the tourists.

Marayoor
Marayoor in Idukki district is a natural sandalwood forest. The site is also renowned for its murals and ruins of the Stone Age civilization. The other attraction of a visit to Marayoor is that tourists get to know how sandalwood is processed in the forest depot. 

Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary

60 km away from Munnar is Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary, renowned for its sizeable population of Nilgiri Tahrs, Nilgiri Wood-pigeons, Elephants, Sambar, Gaur, Grizzled Giant Squirrel, and Neelakurinji flower. Tourists can even avail the opportunity to stay in a tree house or hut stays and hop on to river trekking and waterfall trekking in the sanctuary premises.
