Day 01: Arrival Chennai

The city witnessed many phases in the history of the country. The first English establishment, St. George Fort was built by East India Company. Day 02: Chennai - Mahabalipuram

In the morning, after breakfast, begin your Chennai city tour. Visit the 8th century temple by Pallavas, Parthasarthy Temple, dedicated to Lord Krishna. This temple also has its own share of history as it has a mixture of Pallava aesthetics as well Vijayanagara dynasty which renovated the temple much later in 16th century. This temple continues to be in active use and is a prominent tourist attraction. Extend your Chennai city tour via a visit to Santhome Cathedral, a sacred church built over the tomb of Apostle St. Thomas. According to beliefs, St. Thomas arrived in India after the crucification of Jesus Christ around AD 52 in order to preach the religion and died after spending 26 years in this country. The present day church was built after a millennium and the remains of St. Thomas were moved inside. In the afternoon, drive to Mahabalipuram and experience the splendid open air bas reliefs in stone. On the way to Mahabalipuram, visit another ancient city, Kanchipuram, known as the seventh most sacred Hindu Pilgrimage centres.

Kanchipuram is a city which witnessed the glorious reigns of the Pallavas, the Cholas and the Rayas of Vijaynagar and therefore amalgamated various refined traditions. There are several majestic temples in Kanchipuram that attract many tourists. Mahabalipuram is a tiny coastal village, set in a boulder strewn heritage landscape. In the morning, drive to Pondicherry (Puducherry), the little French Riviera on the south east of Tamil Nadu famous for rocky beach promenade. Blessed with a unique French culture and serene surroundings, this former French colony presents an unusual blend of European and Indian traditions. An added attraction is the town of Auroville, an oasis of peace and enlightenment and a spiritual abode of Saint Aurobindo and Mother. The peaceful ashrama, Auroville is a must visit attraction of touring Pondicherry. Also visit Sacred Heart Church with its Gothic architecture and stained glass windows. Day 04: Pondicherry - Swamimalai

In the morning, drive to Swamimalai, famous for its temples. Enroute, visit the heritage temples in Chidambaram & Gangaikondacholapuram. The world famous Nataraja Temple in Chidambaram is a majestic temple spread around 40 acres. On arrival in Swamimalai, check in at the hotel. Rest of the day is free at leisure. In the evening, visit the local craftsman workshops where you can acquaint yourself with the traditional crafts like bronze statue making and pottery. Overnight in the hotel.

Day 05: Swamimalai - Trichy

In the morning, drive towards Trichy or Tiruchirapalli. On the way, visit temples in Kumbakonam, Darasuram and Tanjore. The temple town of Kumbakonam is known for its many revered temples. In Tanjore, visit the Brihadishwara Temple, the largest monolithic granite stone temple is a part of the Great Living Chola Temples and is a splendid specimen of architectural brilliance.  Constructed from a single piece of granite weighing 80 tonnes, it is an artistic and architectural feat in a manner similar to the Egyptian pyramids. The Palace of Thanjavur, next to the temple was built by the Nayaks and the Marathas. Its huge corridors and spacious halls depict the magnificence of the Cholas. In the morning, enjoy the half day sightseeing tour of Trichy. Tiruchirappalli or Trichy, located on the banks of the Cauvery River is another ancient city of Tamil Nadu belonging to 2nd century BC. The town and its fort were built by the Nayakkar Dynasty of Madurai. Today, Trichy as a town has evolved as an impeccable blend of heritage, pilgrimage and commerce. It is also India's largest center manufacturing artificial diamonds. Later visit famous Rock Fort Temple, a spectacular monument on the massive rocky outcroppings. The unique facet about this rock temple complex is that it comprises of three temples. The Manikka Vinayakar temple is set on the foothills, the Uchhi Pillayar Koyil at the top of the hill and the Taayumaanavar Koyil (Shivastalam) on the hill. Overnight in the hotel.

Day 07: Trichy - Madurai

In the morning drive to Madurai, the second largest ancient city of Tamil Nadu. It was once the seat of Tamil learning and compared to Athens in Greece. Famous for Meenakshi Temple, this city of gopuram towers is etched with heritage, culture and religion. Madurai is also home to a large number of temples that reflect the refined Tamil architectural brilliance. There are numerous tourist attractions in Madurai that will fill your trip with joy and excitement. On arrival in Madurai, check in at the hotel. Afternoon is free at leisure.

In the evening, visit the great Meenakshi Temple dedicated to the consort of Lord Shiva with its towering Gopurams. Goddess Meenakshi and Lord Sundareshwar are the main deities of the temple. The temple has 985 beautifully sculptured pillars that form the Thousand Pillar Mandapam Hall. Since ages, the temple has been the center of Tamil culture, sponsoring literature, art, music and dance. Also visit, Tirumala Nayak Palace, a gracious building built by a famous Madurai King Thirumalai Nayaakar in 1636. The paintings, carvings and designing of the Mahal showcase the amazing talents of the Nayak kings. The beauty and brilliance of this structure is also a part of many Bollywood movies. Amazing Sunny Tamil Nadu BeachDay 08: Madurai – Rameshwaram - Madurai

After breakfast, move towards Rameshwaram - the most sacred temple town on an island surrounded by the legends of Ramayana and calm Bay of Bengal. It is often believed that Lord Rama worshipped Lord Shiva here before visiting Sri Lanka for a battle to save Sita, his wife from Ravana’s captives. Spend the unique time on the calm waters of the beach, not rising above 3 cm. The beach waters give an illusion to the visitor as a long unending river. After spending relaxing time on the sacred beach, return back to Madurai in your hotel for overnight stay.

Day 09: Madurai - Trivandrum

Day 10: Trivandrum - Kanyakumari - Trivandrum

After breakfast, embark on a road trip to Kanyakumari, the only beach witnessing the confluence of three majestic seas – Bay of Bengal, Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea.
